CAP 2026 Scrutiny Center: Role, Documents & How to Find the Nearest FC

You have registered for CAP 2026, and now the portal is forcing you to choose between "e-Scrutiny" and "Physical Scrutiny." If you are stressed about whether you actually need to visit a college campus physically to avoid form rejection, you are not alone. Making a mistake during this critical gateway can completely disqualify you from the entire Maharashtra engineering merit list.

What is a Scrutiny Center and How Does It Work?

A Scrutiny Center (SC)—also officially called a Facilitation Center (FC)—is an engineering college appointed by the State CET Cell to verify your CAP application. For the Academic Year 2026-27, the CET Cell has designated over 200 institutions across Maharashtra to validate your data before the official merit list is prepared.

The document verification window is strictly live from July 3 to July 13, 2026 (up to 5:00 PM). The center's primary responsibilities include:

  • Application Form Verification: Confirming that your name, exam marks, and eligibility details perfectly match your portal registration.
  • Document Validation: Checking original certificates to ensure they are genuine and legally valid.
  • Application Confirmation: Generating your official receipt-cum-acknowledgement slip, which serves as your ultimate proof of successful verification.

E-Scrutiny vs. Physical Scrutiny: Which Mode Should You Choose?

During your online registration on fe2026.mahacet.org, you must select one of two verification pathways:

  • E-Scrutiny (100% Online Mode): You upload scanned copies of your original documents straight to your portal. Designated officers verify them remotely. If an issue arises, an objection is raised in your login window, and you must upload a corrected scan before the July 13 deadline. This mode is best for students with straightforward applications and flawless documents.
  • Physical Scrutiny (In-Person Mode): You must personally book a slot and visit the specific FC you selected during registration. Verification officers cross-reference your physical originals on the spot. This mode is highly recommended for category or quota candidates (OBC, EWS, TFWS, SC/ST) because any minor discrepancies or certificate concerns can be resolved immediately with an affidavit without portal delays.

Mandatory Documents Checklist for Verification

Whether verifying online or offline, missing a document will halt your admission journey. Ensure you have the following ready:

  • Core Academic Marks: Class 10th and Class 12th official marksheets along with your MHT-CET 2026 Scorecard.
  • Identity & Domicile: A valid Aadhaar Card for photo identity, your School Leaving Certificate, and a Domicile Certificate issued by a Tehsildar or SDO.
  • Category Certificates (If Applicable): Caste Certificate, Caste Validity, and a current-year Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) or EWS Certificate dated specifically for FY 2025-26.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: Is a Scrutiny Center the same as a Facilitation Center?

Yes. The State CET Cell uses the terms "Scrutiny Center" (SC) and "Facilitation Center" (FC) interchangeably. They refer to the exact same designated engineering colleges handling your document verification.

Q: Can I visit any random Scrutiny Center for physical verification?

No. If you choose physical mode, you must visit the specific engineering college you explicitly selected during your online CAP registration. You cannot walk into a random center unannounced.

Q: My document has a minor name spelling mismatch—will my form be rejected?

Minor spelling differences are very common. If you choose physical scrutiny, you can easily submit a notarized affidavit on the spot to clear the error. For e-scrutiny, an objection will be raised, allowing you to upload the supporting affidavit online.
